Family life School & Family Pregnancy pilates getaway Try a pre-birth pilates weekend to help you with pregnancy aches and pains. 1 of Ad break Pre-birth pamperingWhat mum-to-be doesn't want a bit of pampering before the big day? At 29 weeks pregnant, I'm exhausted, suffering with the pelvic condition SPD and suspecting that the blooming stage of pregnancy has completely passed me by. So the chance to spend a weekend at the coast combining relaxation with pilates to help my aches and pains sounds ideal. The Guesthouse East is a smart white townhouse just a two-minute walk from the seafront in Eastbourne, so it's the perfect location for a last mini-break with your other half, or a girlie getaway with a pregnant friend. Although it's a B&B, each room has its own self-catering facilities, so you can make your own meals and snacks if you choose, or join other guests in the communal dining room. There's no lift though, so if you're heavily pregnant or have trouble with stairs, ask for a lower floor room when you book. Beauty treatsThe weekend begins with breakfast, followed by a late-morning pilates class. I've already had a pre-retreat chat with the instructor, Tracy, so she can tailor the class to everyone's abilities (and in my case, limited range of movements) and with a maximum of six people per class, we each get lots of individual attention to correct postures and make sure we're doing the moves right. Later on in the day, I'm booked for a pregnancy massage (you could also opt for a mini facial, manicure or pedicure) which loosens my aching back and shoulders and means for once I get a good night's sleep that evening. We have our second pilates class just before lunch on Sunday morning, which gives everyone time for a lie-in followed by a leisurely breakfast reading the papers. At the end of the weekend I'm armed with exercises from Tracy that I can do at home to ease my SPD symptoms and feeling refreshed from a much-needed weekend away.Helen Poole Contact detailsGuesthouse East is at 13 Hartington Place, Eastbourne, BN21 3BS theguesthouseeastbourne.co.uk (01323 722774) Weekend includes two nights B&B, two pilates classes and a beauty treatment, from £180.
