Make sure you spend some time around the lavish pool

Hannah, 30, and husband Tom Taylor, 35, from Bath spent a memorable week at Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers in Mauritius with their daughter Lola, 3.

Holidaying in Mauritius with a 3-year-old might not sound ideal (it’s an eleven hour flight), but having been to other all-inclusive Club Med resorts we knew it’d be worth the effort.

A Club Med rep met us at the airport and we were provided with a taxi for the 45-minute transfer as part of the all-inclusive package. The time difference is only 3 hours too, so jet lag isn’t a worry.

Learning the Club Med way

At the resort, we were greeted by a beaming reception G.O (this is the name given to the activity staff, you’ll be known as a G.M). We enjoyed cold towels and juice, while the G.O explained a few things about the resort. This gives a good flavour of the Club Med experience, as the G.Os really make your holiday special, often joining you for dinner and encouraging you to get involved in activities and the evening’s suggested dress code.

The room was simply breathtaking, with views of the Indian Ocean. If you’re travelling with a baby, reception ensures that the room is equipped with a cot, baby bath and a changing mat. Pushchairs can also be requested. Fresh frangipani’s are dotted around the room each day and little chocolates are left on your pillow at night. We even had snuggly bathrobes.

Go, Petit Club!

The main attraction for kids (and parents!) is the Petit Club Med. The team is sensational and they keep kids thoroughly entertained, fed and safe. Painting, pirate themed treasure hunts on the beach and swimming in the kids’ pool were Lola’s favourite activities.

Petit Club kids can remain with the G.Os until the early evening, which was a nice treat when Tom and I wanted to have dinner alone. There’s also a Baby Club Pyjama Club for babies up to 23 months, so you can enjoy the bar-come-disco, too. You might be tempted to join in the Crazy Sign dances with the G.Os. Club Med Mauritius has their own signature dance to learn as you go.

The resort is situated on two stunning beaches and sport enthusiasts are well catered for with tennis courts, fitness lessons, canoes, sailing boats and water skiing on offer. The G.Os are eager to help you learn a new sport and get you involved. The water ski team even put on a show to give you an idea of how it should be done.

Food is available throughout the day in the restaurant and at the beach. On certain nights you can book to eat in the beach restaurant for an à la carte menu dinner which is a real treat. Lola loved the pancakes at breakfast and the made-to-order pasta was really tasty. There’s a baby corner where you’ll find baby food, blenders and cutlery for little ones in the main restaurant, which can always be accessed.

We also took a day trip to Club Med’s 5 trident resort, La Plantation d’Albion, just one hour away by boat. The main attraction is the circus trapeze and there’s archery and a golfing range, too. We even saw flying fish during the boat ride over!

You can enjoy an à la carte lunch at La Plantation’s sea view restaurant, indulge in the spa or join in a 5-a-side game on one of the many pitches. We opted for an afternoon at their luxurious infinity pool, where you can order drinks from your sun lounger.

We completed our holiday by buying some of the professional pictures the resident photographer had captured. We kitted ourselves out with a Club Med t-shirt ready for our next visit, too.

Club Med offers the perfect holiday for families with children who like to be busy and parents who want a stress-free trip. Special mention must go to the G.Os who go out of their way to ensure your holiday is a memorable one.
