    Accommodation

The bedrooms are modern, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, with air conditioning. Our family suite had a double master bedroom and bathroom, and a separate bedroom with two beds and shower room for the children, a lounge and dining area, as well as a spacious balcony. The fully-equipped kitchenette includes a fridge, microwave and hob, plus a dishwasher, so that you don’t have to spend your holiday washing up! The hotel thoughtfully provided plastic bowls and cutlery for the children, as well as a booster seat and cot for the baby. The hotel has a mini-market just next to reception, so you can stock up on basics for a delicious al fresco breakfast on the large balcony.

    The pool and gardens

The hotel is arranged in a square around the pool and garden area. There are two main pools – a sandy beach with a shallow, palm-tree lined, shady pool that the kids LOVED and then a second, bigger pool, with a ‘river’, which flows around in a circle, through caves and refreshing waterfalls. When you’re not cooling off in the pool, you can chill out on the massive day beds, on the beach, or the grassy garden away from the water. There is also an ecological pool with a waterfall and colourful fish that will keep the kids transfixed for hours! In the middle of the pool area, there are two pool-bar restaurants, including a ‘Burger Ranch’ (Israeli fast food chain) and a cafe bar, with a selection of pizzas and toasted sandwiches and a range of ice cream and drinks.

    Kids pool and kids club

The large kids club has a full range of daily craft activities, as well as computers and a mini-cinema, with friendly staff who are on hand to help out and supervise activities. There’s a soft play area and mini-kitchen area to amuse the younger ones. There is also a shaded kids pool and playground which is great for sheltering from the sun.

    Facilities

The hotel boasts Le Boulevard, a Parisian-style shopping mall, including premium and international shops such as Rolex, Timberland, Swarovski and Nine West, and Israeli designers like G.R.A.S. and Dorin Frankfurt. There is also a theatre ‘WOW’, with a Vegas-style nightly show, now in its 9th season – this time on ice! There is also a cafe, and a spa and gym area, if you can drag yourself away from the pool for long enough.

    Out and about in Eilat

Eilat is a lively port town, at the southernmost tip of Israel, on the Red Sea. Eilat is a duty free shopping town with a huge range of local and international boutiques, as well as a lively night market. There is a wide selection of bars and restaurants, all open throughout the day and well into the night, with highchairs and child-friendly menu’s. Kings’ City is a science museum-esque indoor attraction with a biblical theme, and the underwater observatory is a great day out for kids, with a shark pool, aquarium, and underwater viewing platform. If you want to get up closer to the fishes, you can hire a boat from the pier next to Hof Hanania (as we did), or swim with the dolphins on the Dolphin reef. Aqaba in Jordan and Taba in Egypt are both only a short cab ride away.

    Getting there

At certain times of the year, there are direct flights from London and Manchester to Eilat – for the rest of the year, Easyjet, El Al and BA all fly to Tel Aviv (Easyjet from £110 return), and then it’s a short internal flight south to Eilat City Airport, which is conveniently located in the centre of town. We booked our room through laterooms.com, with prices starting from £150 per room per night.
