Charity is encouraging children to speak up about abuse
ChildLine is aiming to visit every primary school to talk to children about child abuse.
The new NSPCC 'Now I Know' scheme aims to reduce child abuse by sending in experts to talk to 9-11 year olds about how to protect themselves from abuse and where to get help.
On average, at least two children in every primary classroom have suffered some form of abuse or neglect, the charity says.
NSPCC Chief Executive Peter Wanless said the Jimmy Saville case showed what happened when “people do not speak up and are not heard”.
He added: “We must inspire everyone to believe such horrors can be prevented and that they can help.

“Protection after the event, vital as it is, can’t attack the root causes of the problem.”
The ChildLine Schools Service has visited 270,895 children in 3,956 schools so far.
