Colouring book for kids, with scenes of 9/11 and the capture of Bin Laden, blasted for demonising Muslims
A colouring book designed to teach US children about the events of 9/11 has been slammed by American Muslims.
The book, which has line drawings of the burning twin towers and the gunpoint capture of Osama Bin Laden, has been criticised for demonising all Muslims.
Intensely patriotic language accompanies the pictures.
"Children, the truth is, these terrorist acts were done by freedom-hating radical Islamic Muslim extremists. These crazy people hate the American way of life because we are FREE and our society is FREE,” the book says.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations has branded the book “disgusting”.
“America is full of these individuals and groups seeking to demonise Islam and marginalise Muslims and it's just a fact of life in the post-9/11 era,” said Ibrahim Hooper, from the Council. "I hope parents will recognise the agenda behind this book and not expose their children to intolerance or religious hatred".
The publishers disagree, claiming the book simply portrays accurate historical facts.
Would you let your children colour in the guns and burning buildings?
