One in seven new toys are binned before the end of Christmas Day
More than 10% of parents will throw away a new toy on Christmas Day, according to research by esure home insurance. Of all the toys Santa delivers, 14% are broken or damaged and thrown out with the wrapping paper at a cost of £1.1million. The survey found that, on average, the first toy is opened at 7.50am and the first is broken or damaged by 2pm.Dolls and action figures are the most likely to be destined for the bin and 1 in five parents say hi-tech gadgets such as Nintendo Wiis and DS consoles, get broken by the end of Christmas Day. Almost half of parents said at least one family Christmas had been ruined by tears and tantrums as a result of a damaged toy.
