In the last school year, more than 1,000 children under 4 received suspensions
Children aged 4 years or under received 1,250 suspensions for bad behaviour, reports the Metro. And boys copped 1,100 of these. The figures come from the Department for Education, for the 2008/09 period.
The total number of suspension given to primary school children in England was 39,510. This figure is actually down on the 2007/2008 figures, which reveal 43,290 suspension were made.
However, the number of suspension was called ‘”unacceptable” by Martin Narey of Barnardo’s. The repeated use of suspension doesn’t address the cause of the bad behaviour, but is instead an “ineffective sticking plaster solution” he commented.
