Your baby’s early diet is key to avoiding a lifetime of obesity
Children who are overweight by the age of 2 are likely to suffer from obesity throughout their lifetime, according to US researchers.The study of more than 100 obese children and teenagers found that over half were overweight by the time they were 2 years old and 90% were overweight by the age of 5. All of the children in the study were overweight by the time they reached 10.In the UK, around 27% of children are overweight and experts believe poor diet, premature introduction of solid food and a lack of exercise are the cause.The researchers also said after the age of 2, it's very difficult to change children's tastes for food so it's important for parents to start children off with good eating habits."Getting parents and children to change habits that have already taken hold is a monumental challenge fraught with road-blocks and disappointments," said Dr John Harrington, who led the study.A spokesman from the Department of Health added, "What happens in the first years of a baby's life has a big effect on how healthy they are in the future."Find out how to give your baby the best start in life with a healthy diet.Could Granny and Grandpa be making your child obese?
