The Scout Association in Britain is celebrating record numbers of members, as it sees the biggest growth in almost four decades.
More than 16,500 have joined since January last year, seeing a rise of 3.5 per cent, the fifth annual rise in members in a row.
Figures show the Scout movement is still very popular with teenagers, with over 65,000 teens in the organisation. But others are chomping at the bit, with 33,500 waiting to join due to a lack of adult volunteers.
It’s thought the leap in numbers could be down to the recent rule change, which now allows girls into the scouts, having previously only been open to boys.
