Top 10 films every kid must see

A poll of 5,000 parents reveals the movies your tot needs to watch before he turns 9½!

Toy Story
Buzz and Woody storm to the top of the list

The top 10 films every child should watch before they turn 9½ have been revealed.

LOVEFiLM worked with child psychologist Dr Kairen Cullen to ask over 5,000 grown-ups what their favourite kids’ classics were, before creating the must-see movie list for your children.

Favourites spanned 70 years, from The Wizard of Oz right through to modern day animation Up.

LOVEFiLM’s top 10 films your tot should watch before he turns 9 ½ are:

1. Toy Story

2. The Lion King

3. Home Alone

4. Labyrinth

5. The Jungle Book

6. Mary Poppins

7. The Wizard of Oz

8. The Neverending Story

9. Matilda

10. Up

So what is it about these movies that makes them so important? They all seem to have some kind of life lesson for children to learn.

For example, the first Toy Story movie explores jealously and then rivalry between friends Woody and Buzz, which could easily be seen as rivalry between siblings, especially when a new arrival comes along. It's also a movie that entertains adults too, which may have helped it to the top spot.

Which films do you think are mising from this top 10?
