Buggies
There are some fabulous-looking buggies heading into the stores early next year. At the world's biggest nursery fair in Cologne last week, we were invited to some fantastic sneak previews, including:
Silver Cross Surf - Head-turning style (as we've come to expect from Silver Cross), with a reversible pram and pushchair combination and compact fold system, the Surf provides great comfort at a cracking affordable price. We'll be bringing you more details and exclusive images over the next few weeks, so you're ready for the Surf's arrival in January.
Phil & Teds - There are some exciting new launches from the NZ buggy people who have also taken over the much-loved Mountain Buggy company. Look out for a new jogger buggy for racy mums and a hi-tech pushchair for style-setters.
Mamas & Papas - Prepare for a brand new look buggy from Mamas & Papas - the Mylo has been designed by the daughter of the M&P family owners (whose just had her baby). It's smart, sassy and has a great folding system.
Trends spotted: The new breeds of buggies all tend to be forward and parent facing, so you can get the best of both worlds. Plus, lots of new folding systems, that make next year's buggies even more compact.
Car seats
As ever, safety is the buzz word when it comes to car seats and every year there's new technology being introduced.
We loved the Kiddy car seats, which have just arrived in the UK, (they're massive in Germany), which have a totally different way of working. Suitable from 9 months plus, there are no fiddly straps to keep your child secure, instead you fit a pad at the front of the car seat, which tests have shown to be even safer for your child than straps. Look out for a review in MFM coming soon.
Trends spotted: Several car seat companies, such as Britax and Recaro, are starting to produce car seat bases that take you through the stages, so you don't have to fork out for a different base each time you need the next stage seat. We think it's a great idea!
