Nomi® is the latest high chair to join Stokke’s fleet of award winning chairs. Created by Peter Opsvik, the same designer as Stokke’s iconic Tripp Trapp® chair (which has sold more than 12 million units worldwide) Nomi® has a history of its own - and many awards too, but has just joined the Stokke stable from its original home at Evomove.

The chair was developed from an ambition to create the world’s best highchair in terms of form and function. Suitable from ‘birth to life’, the chair boasts of a tool free adjustment, and is able to evolve with your child’s changing needs. Stokke’s acquisition of Nomi® only strengthens their expertise in the highchair market, placing them firmly as leaders in their field. We got a chance to take a first look at Nomi® in its new home, and here are our first impressions.

Using Nomi® for the first time

I was impressed with how simple it was to put Nomi® highchair together. I didn’t need to use any tools, just the allen key that’s provided to tighten up a few screws. The chair design is very minimalistic and contemporary and I was keen to see if it really could take the weight of an adult. It felt really sturdy and although it wouldn’t be comfortable to sit on for a long period of time, you can purchase a separate seat cushion for a bit of extra comfort.

I received a white chair with an oak stem, but Nomi® comes in a number of different colour combinations meaning you can design a chair to suit your home.

My 3-year-old son couldn’t wait to give the chair a try and he was able to climb onto it himself with the help of the foot rest. The chair height is easily adjustable, by turning the knobs on the back of the seat and the foot rest. I was able to adjust the position really quickly in order for my son to sit comfortably at the table and he loved the freedom Nomi® provides - no fiddly straps to restrict his movement.

More like this

Nomi® was simple to convert into a baby seat for my 1-year-old, with a single part clipping straight onto the chair. You can also add a harness (purchased separately for £33.00) for additional safety. My daughter found the chair really comfortable and, like her brother, she seemed to enjoy the freedom the chair offers as she was able to move without restriction.

You can purchase a tray for the chair (£59.00) which did come in handy when we used it, but it was also nice having my daughter seated at and eating from the table with us at meal times.

What really impressed me about Nomi® was how it can be balanced on a table top in order to clean up after meal times. Due to the simple design, the chair is easy to clean too. There are no little nooks to harbour food and no fabric to soak up liquids and cause unpleasant stains - just a quick wipe and I was done.

The chair doesn’t fold down and the large feet means it can’t be stored away compactly, but Nomi® hasn’t been designed to be hidden away out of sight - it has a stylish look for a reason. It’s meant to be part of your home like any other piece of furniture, and is perfect if you have the room.

Who is Stokke® Nomi® best suited to?

Stokke NOMI highchair with newborn

Nomi® is the ideal highchair for parents looking for something that will grow with their child. Being suitable from birth (with accessories) means parents can make use of it straight away with the addition of the newborn seat, and it can be easily converted to a baby seat and then a chair for 36 months plus.

It can also be used for multiple children due to how quickly and easily it can be converted - when your baby isn’t using it, you can take off the newborn seat or baby seat in seconds, and it can then be used by your toddler.

The sleek design means Nomi® will look stylish in all homes, and the fact it comes in a variety of colour combinations is a big bonus.

How much is Stokke® Nomi® chair?

Priced at £245.00 for the chair without additional seat units, it is a premium item. But considering the chair can see a child from birth through to adulthood, it is certainly a worthwhile investment. The newborn seat can be purchased separately for £110.00, the baby seat is £52.00 and seat cushion is £45.00.
