First Look: Stokke® Xplory® X Stroller

The stylish Stokke Xplory X stroller allows you to keep your baby closer while you’re out and about, with a height-adjustable frame that fosters comfort and connection

Stokke Xplory X

The Stokke® Xplory® X is the latest offering from the design-conscious Norwegian brand behind the Tripp Trapp chair, an iconic design that has sold more than 12 million units worldwide. Stokke is focussed on creating premium products that grow with your child, and the Xplory X is no exception, with a distinctive design featuring a height-adjustable seat. The stylish urban pushchair is designed to help you keep a close connection to your baby, and the central stem allows the height of the seat to be adjusted so you can maintain eye contact whether you’re walking in the park or sitting at a cafe.

With a carrycot attachment (sold separately) it can be used from birth, and the seat unit is suitable up to 22kg or 4 years, whichever comes first.

What is special about the Stokke® Xplory® X stroller?

  • The height-adjustable chassis design allows you to keep your baby extra close. The seat can be used in parent or forward-facing modes, and has three recline positions for “sleep, rest, and active” periods
  • The forward-facing storage bag holds up to 32 kg and is removable. Its placement means you won’t accidentally kick it while walking with the stroller
  • The wheels have a 360-degree swivel, making the Xplory X easy to steer on urban terrain, even one-handed
  • The Xplory X has a stackable fold in two parts, for easy storage
  • Design is at the heart of everything Stokke does, and the Xplory X has been awarded the coveted “Red Dot: Best of the Best” award for ground-breaking design

The Xplory X would suit a style-conscious parent who wants to interact with their child in a variety of settings. The luxury fabrics, zippy handling and adjustable seat make it ideal for an urban environment where it can be used in cafes, on walks and public transport.

Using the Stokke® Xplory® X for the first time

The Xplory X feels like a real design statement to wheel around, with its unique-looking chassis and handlebar. As it’s so different to traditional pushchairs, the initial set-up felt a little like driving in a foreign country, but the mechanisms were relatively simple once I’d worked them out. The fabric on the seat, carry cot, hood and basket is lovely and soft and there is a definite sense of comfort for children enveloped by the bucket-style seat and cocoon-like hood. The water-repellent fabric provides SPF 50 sun protection and can be detached to wash. There’s even a high visibility strip for safety: no detail has been overlooked.

Stokke Xplory X recline

The versatile seat can be used in both parent and forward-facing mode, with three recline positions and adjustable height, which allowed plenty of opportunities to interact with my child. The central chassis does, however, mean your child will have a bar between their legs in parent-facing mode. The carry cot, which is available separately and allows the stroller to be used from birth, was a snug fit for my 3 month old.

The Xplory X’s soft leatherette handle is adjustable, and the smooth handling of the stroller made it easy to zip in and out of shops and around city streets. The zip-up basket sits on a platform at the front of the pram and can be detached and used like a bag. This is great if you like a tidy look, but slightly tricky if you like to use the basket to sling your groceries in.

Folding the stroller requires removing the seat from the chassis, tucking away the handlebar and collapsing the wheels. The pram is stackable but is not a compact fold and must be leaned or laid flat when collapsed. When assembled it measures D 101cm x W 56 cm x H131cm and weighs 13.4kg with the seat attached.
