First Look: Stokke® Xplory® X Stroller

What is special about the Stokke® Xplory® X stroller?

Using the Stokke® Xplory® X for the first time

The Xplory X feels like a real design statement to wheel around, with its unique-looking chassis and handlebar. As it’s so different to traditional pushchairs, the initial set-up felt a little like driving in a foreign country, but the mechanisms were relatively simple once I’d worked them out. The fabric on the seat, carry cot, hood and basket is lovely and soft and there is a definite sense of comfort for children enveloped by the bucket-style seat and cocoon-like hood. The water-repellent fabric provides SPF 50 sun protection and can be detached to wash. There’s even a high visibility strip for safety: no detail has been overlooked.

The versatile seat can be used in both parent and forward-facing mode, with three recline positions and adjustable height, which allowed plenty of opportunities to interact with my child. The central chassis does, however, mean your child will have a bar between their legs in parent-facing mode. The carry cot, which is available separately and allows the stroller to be used from birth, was a snug fit for my 3 month old.

The Xplory X’s soft leatherette handle is adjustable, and the smooth handling of the stroller made it easy to zip in and out of shops and around city streets. The zip-up basket sits on a platform at the front of the pram and can be detached and used like a bag. This is great if you like a tidy look, but slightly tricky if you like to use the basket to sling your groceries in.

Folding the stroller requires removing the seat from the chassis, tucking away the handlebar and collapsing the wheels. The pram is stackable but is not a compact fold and must be leaned or laid flat when collapsed. When assembled it measures D 101cm x W 56 cm x H131cm and weighs 13.4kg with the seat attached.

The Xplory X includes the black chassis with a leatherette handle, front and back puncture-proof wheels, a leatherette bumper bar that can be used on both the seat and carrycot, the seat with a baby insert, hood and basket. It has a three-year warranty and is suitable for children from 6 months to four years, or up to 22kg. The stroller is available in four colours: Rich Black, Modern Grey, Royal Blue and Ruby Red.

The Stokke Xplory X is £899 including the seat unit that can used from 6 months to 22kg or 4 years. If you want to use the stroller for a newborn, the carry cot can be bought separately for £189. The chassis is also compatible with the Stokke® iZi Go Modular™ X1 by BeSafe® baby car seat (£229).
