The queen of pop has been given permission to adopt another Malawian baby after judges in the country reversed the decision to block the process.

Previously, Madonna had been told that she was not able to adopt Chifundo 'Mercy' James because she had not lived in the African country for 18 months as the law requires.

But the singer’s lawyer convinced an appeal court to change the ruling and will now be allowed to take the 4-year-old home.

A source told the Sun newspaper: “All recommendations are in favour of the adoption taking place. Mercy should start packing her bags. She's off to America.”

Human rights groups have raised concerns over the star’s decision to adopt another Malawian baby, stating that she is receiving preferential treatment because of her fame.

However, information minister Patricia Kaliati described Madonna as a worthy mother who had helped Malawi through projects such as building a day care centre.
