Fat fighting pants that claim to melt away cellulite by warming the skin are going down a storm at John Lewis.

The £25 Scala Bio-Fir Anti-Cellulite pants contain crystals that warm up when they come in contact with the skin. Research showed that four out of five women who wore the knickers everyday for a month not only saw a reduction in cellulite but also lost inches from their stomach, hips and thighs. Could this be the answer to every busy mum's prayers to shift the post-baby belly?

The heat is said to improve circulation in the thigh, bottom and tummy, encouraging fat cells to break down. The fat cells are then excreted from the body by the liver.

"The technology is held within the fabric of the product so the anti-cellulite properties remain intact for the lifetime of the garment, withstanding countless washes," says Helen Spencer, lingerie buyer at John Lewis.

A spokesman for John Lewis said that the effects last up to a year, possibly even longer, provided that wearers follow a healthy diet and did regular exercise.
