Easter Egg Hunt cancelled due to misbehaving parents
Kids in Colorado USA will miss out on their annual chocolate egg hunt after over-competitive mums and dads ruin the fun
Children in Colorado, USA, have had their annual Easter Egg Hunt in Colorado Springs cancelled because their parents were “too aggressive” last year, reports the Daily Mail.
After event organisers struggled to hide the prizes in the open space, it was Easter baskets at dawn. Mums and dads were reportedly jumping ropes to give their kids a helping hand in scooping up the various prizes, meaning the whole event was over in seconds.
“One parent gets in there, other parents say, ‘If one can get in we all can get in,’ and everybody goes,” said Mazie Baalman, owner of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which sponsors the event.
Those disappointed by the cancellation feel this demonstrates mums and dads ‘helicopter’ approach to parenting; hovering over their child’s every move. “They don’t give their children enough chances to learn from hard knocks, mistakes,” said Ron Alsop, author of The Trophy Kids Grow Up.
But Lenny Watkins, who took his friend’s son to the hunt, told the Daily Mail, “You better believe I’m going to help my kid get one of those eggs. I promised my kid an Easter egg hunt.”
