Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, a pediatrician, are expecting their 2nd child together.

The social media CEO announced that his daughter Maxima, aged around 16 months, would be getting a sibling on his (surprise, surprise!) Facebook page.

In the heartfelt announcement, Mark revealed the couple were unsure if they’d be able to have another child (Priscilla previously had 3 miscarriages).

But he also shared something else - that his main hope for the pregnancy (after a healthy baby, obvs) was that they’d have another girl.

Mark's post in full:

"Priscilla and I are happy to share we're expecting another baby girl!

More like this

"After our difficult experience having Max, we weren't sure what to expect or whether we'd be able to have another child. When Priscilla and I first found out she was pregnant again, our first hope was that the child would be healthy.

"My next hope was that it would be a girl. I cannot think of a greater gift than having a sister and I'm so happy Max and our new child will have each other.

"I grew up with three sisters and they taught me to learn from smart, strong women. They weren't just my sisters but some of my best friends.

"They've gone on to write books, excel at performance, music, sports, cooking and their careers. They showed me how to compete and still laugh together afterwards.

"Priscilla grew up with two sisters and they taught her the importance of family, caring for others and hard work.

"They supported each other as first generation college students and in their careers in medicine and business. They have so many inside jokes - the kind only siblings can understand.

"We are all better people because of the strong women in our lives - sisters, mothers and friends. We can't wait to welcome our new little one and do our best to raise another strong woman.”

What we think...

Aww, firstly, what a lovely announcement ?

Secondly, Mark's words definitely got us chatting here at MFM HQ.

Of course, it almost goes without saying that any parent-to-be's biggest hope is a healthy and happy baby.

But when it comes to Mark’s preference, we reckon it’s clear that his strong relationships with his own sisters has really influenced his (rather specific) desire to give Maxima a sister.

And one of the mums on our team totally understood that and agreed that if she was to have a 2nd child, she’d definitely want a little sister for her daughter, thanks to her own family relationships.

The sisterly bond can be really special, that’s for sure ?

Though one of our team admitted that despite the fact her younger sister is her best friend, and she loves having a female sibling, she’d probably want one of each when the time comes.

Interestingly, another MFM team member shared that her 2 boys couldn’t be any more different from each other.

Because, hey, if siblings are going to become besties, it doesn’t matter if it’s a sis-bro, bro-bro or sis-sis combo, right? It’s all about personalities and interests.

Hmmm, very interesting indeed. And we guess it's really each to their own when it comes to this one.

Huge congratulations Priscilla and Mark ??

Have your say

We’d love to know if you had/have a preference for your 2nd child’s sex.

Was there a reason behind it - or were you influenced by your own siblings or family situation? Perhaps you only have one child but have an idea of whether you’d want them to have a lil sis or lil bro?
