Doctor halts her own labour to deliver another mum's baby
This has got to be the birth story of the year...
Wow! This is definitely not your average birth story...
OK, so there's nothing really unusual in a doctor unexpectedly stepping in to deliver a baby (think of all those 'do we have a doc on board' aeroplane birth stories) but by golly, it's not every day the medic is in hospital being induced herself!
That's exactly what happened to pregnant Dr Amanda Hess and mum-to-be Leah Johnson, who were both maternity unit patients at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Kentucky, USA.
Dr Hess was just being prepped for her inducement - literally getting into her hospital gown - when she heard nursing staff discussing how another woman's baby was in distress and needed to be delivered immediately.
The problem was that the woman's obstetrician-gynecologist (OBGYN) had yet to arrive at the hospital.

The whole story of how events unfolded was shared on Facebook by another doctor at the hospital, Hala Sabry, who shared a pic of gorgeous new mum Dr Hess and wrote:
"Hats off to this #DrMom and member of Physician Moms Group #PMG, Dr. Amanda Hess! This picture was taken minutes after she delivered her second child, Ellen Joyce!
"Not only does she look like a stunning model but while she was getting into her patient gown to prepare for her induction and delivery she overheard the nurses preparing for a woman in active labor who needed to deliver immediately because the baby was in distress - that baby was coming and needed help!
"The patient's OBGYN was on their way but Dr. Hess (an OBGYN herself) knew that the baby needed attention now!
"So, in her own words, she "put another gown on to cover my backside, put some splash boots on over my flip flops" and delivered that baby! She literally worked until the last second!!
"Those mamas are bonded for life! And Baby Ellen (and her big sister Kate) will have fun hearing this story when they are older!
"Doctor moms consistently take care of their own families as well as their patients and their respective families all the time. Great job, Dr. Hess! Now enjoy your maternity leave!"
Mega-grateful Leah Johnson said she felt "very lucky" that Amanda was there, and that she was "the type of person she is and stepped up to do what she did".
Yep, VERY lucky indeed. Talk about 'right place, right time' ?⚕️??
