After shocking the world with the news that she was having actor Eddie Murphy’s baby after a whirlwind fling, Mel B was then publicly humiliated after Eddie denied being the father. However, after three years, the former Spice Girl and the Shrek movie star have finally buried the hatchet – but not without its struggles.

"Angel is three-and-a-half and I didn’t expect her real biological father to all of a sudden pop back into our lives,” Mel B admitted on US TV. “ I think because in my mind, I fought so hard for justice at the very beginning of my pregnancy.”

The 35-year-old mum-of-two was referring to the time when she dealt with rumours and nasty comments from people calling her a liar when Eddie Murphy was named as the father. “I was like, hanging my head in shame because people where like, ‘Oh is that the father or isn’t it?’ I knew what I knew,” Mel B shared. “I had people calling me a gold digger saying I got pregnant on purpose. It was a horrible time.”

Recalling the time when Eddie, 49, asked Mel B and her family to come to the Shrek Forever After premiere three years after Angel was born, she admitted being hesitant about the invite. “I thought, do I really want to be on red carpet yet again, entertaining everyone’s else’s world, like, ‘Oh we’re a happy family’ and ‘ Eddie’s back in our life?’”

However, Melanie accepted and is pleased that her daughter has met her father after years of her trying. “When the results of the DNA test came in and Angel was in fact, no surprise, Eddie Murphy’s child, I encouraged their relationship from day one,” Mel said. “I didn’t hear anything for a few years. So this year, it’s been really, really nice that they’ve both been able to get in contact with each other and get to know each other”
