Parents exaggerate their baby’s development milestones
The cat’s out of the bag! More than two-thirds of mums and dads reveal they tell white lies when competing with friends and their babies
Some parents are so competitive when it comes to their children they lie about their development, a new survey reveals.
A whopping 68% of 700 parents polled by Baby Sensory admitted they exaggerate their baby’s milestone development when comparing their baby with their friends’ children.
Baby development expert Dr Lin Day said, “There is a temptation, especially with a first baby, for parents to compare their baby with others.” But with parents competing over nearly every development stage – from walking to potty training - it could be causing unnecessary worry. “It is definitely worth bearing this in mind next time your friend tells you that her little one is crawling at four months,” Dr Lin added.
