Rochelle Humes: “I don’t believe in giving pocket money”

We also know it’s a discussion that many, if not all of us, have to have at some point. When’s the right time? How much is too much? How do you teach them the value of money? What kind of chores, anyway?

Here’s what she told us:

“I don’t do pocket money. I don’t believe in giving her pocket money,” she admitted. “I’ll get her a little treat if she’s been good.

“Pocket money’s maybe something for when they’re older. Secondary school. At this age, I don’t want her to be aware of money.”

But when getting Alaia-Mai to do her chore (putting her toys back in their box), Rochelle does have a rewards system that seems to work pretty well…

“She’s at the age where she’s got to tidy up after herself, after making a mess, when the toys are out. Like, ‘do you think they just magically get put away?’” she jokes.

“She’ll have to do the same as I had to do when I was younger… but we have a little sticker chart [for stuff like that].”

Hey, shiny stickers probably seem more exciting than a £1 coin at that age, right? ?

Anyway, we’re guessing Rochelle’s mini-me has plenty of gold stars to her name already.

Her mum also told us a story about how well-behaved (and surprisingly still!) she was during her 1st ever eye test... even thought it didn't go quite the way she wanted it to!

“Alaia-Mai was devastated she didn’t have to wear glasses – I had to explain it's a good thing that she didn't need them.

"Because a couple of her friends at school wear them, she wanted to look like them.” Rochelle laughed.
