Son throws up, dad throws up and someone calls the police
When his son started vomiting in the car, dad Ben Patterson had no idea that chaos was about to ensue…
Ever been in an enclosed space with a child who's just been sick... and all of a sudden, your stomach takes a turn for the worse?
That’s exactly what happened to dad Ben Patterson, who shared his own, rather dramatic, version of this sticky situation on his Facebook page.
Ben had just swapped cars with his wife after work, giving his wife Stephanie the chance to have a night out while he took Declan home.
All fine... until Declan chucked up rather severely. The smell of little Declan’s vomit was so overwhelming that when Ben pulled the car over to clean it up, he couldn't strop retching and was then sick himself.
He was quick to let Stephanie know about his ordeal in a text exchange, which then got more extreme by the minute...

We’re definitely with him up until this point. Who hasn’t been similarly unsure if they could keep their cool in a situation like this? But the next part of the story is where we get a bit lost…
Ben didn’t just throw up on the road, oh no! He threw up on a lady’s front garden, who then accused him of being drunk while driving. The police showed up and made him take a breathalyser test, which he passed. Fortunately sick fumes don't spark a positive result on a breath test.
"I'm puking on some lady's lawn in Burlingame and she comes out to ask me if I'm drunk while driving the kids," Ben then texted his wife.
"I'm trying to explain that I'm a sympathetic vomiter and can't handle the smell.
"This is SO BAD."
Ah yes, the 'sympathetic vomiter'. Pretty tough if you're a parent. Meanwhile Declan continued to throw up while there was no word from Stephanie.
And the climax - Ben's vivid description of the smell of Declan's sick...
"WHAT DID HE EAT BECAUSE IT SMELLS LIKE ROTTING WHALE BLUBBER.
"ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!!!
"At least I passed the breathalyzer.
"Trying to drive home with the windows down and breathing through my shirt," he concluded, still texting into silence.
Let’s hope that Declan is feeling much better now - and Ben. Bet Stephanie reckons she picked the right night to go out.
