Amanda Holden, 40, is recovering in hospital after serious complications arose during the birth of her second daughter Hollie Rose Hughes. The Britain’s Got Talent star gave birth on Monday via caesarean, but the announcement was delayed until Amanda’s condition stabilised, it has emerged.

“Hollie Rose is healthy and weighed in at 6.1lb,” revealed Amanda and husband Chris Hughes’ spokesperson Alison Griffin. “But Amanda has been in a critical condition for the past three days. She is now stable and we expect her to make a full recovery soon.”

“Amanda nearly died. It was a life-threatening situation. There was a huge loss of blood,” a close friend reportedly told the Daily Mail.

Amanda has a history of difficult pregnancies. She was forced to have an emergency caesarean in 2006 with her first daughter Lexi, after doctors discovered she had a low-lying placenta blocking the birth canal. There have been suggestions this may have occurred again in this pregnancy, but no details have been released by the Holden camp.

“Until Amanda is in a position to indicate what she wants to say, there’s no more information I can give,” Alison said.

Amanda also suffered a miscarriage in 2010 and gave birth to a stillborn son last year.

Well-wishers have been sending messages to the couple on Twitter, including her fellow BGT judge Michael McIntyre, who said, “I’m over the moon for Amanda. It’s been a very tough year for her so I’m glad she’s had her baby.”
