Babies before wedding bells for the under 25’s

Women under 25 are now more likely to become mothers before getting married.

Whereas in the past women were more likely to spend their cash on a big wedding, now they’re focusing on family, as today, the number of women with a baby before 25 has overtaken the number who marry by that age, say the Office of National Statistics.

The latest figures on births and marriage show around 45% of children are born to unmarried mothers, and in 2007, the number of marriages in England and Wales was 231,450, the lowest since 1895.
