1985 - Transformers

In the mid-80s, it seemed everyone wanted one of these vehicles that switched from vehicle to robot. Now a blockbuster movie franchise and back on TV screens for 2015, Transformers were supercool at the time.

1987 - Sylvanian Families

An endless supply of things to add to your Christmas or birthday list, Sylvanian Families liked to have everything from intricate houses, clothes and tiny table ornaments. A collectomaniac's dream toy, expensive for parents and still going strong today.

1988 - Ghostbusters Proton Pack

Did you want to be part of the Ghostbusters? We did and we really wanted to get our hands on the Proton Pack even if we were a little scared of ghosts...

1990 - Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael were kicking up a storm in the sewers of New York City. The ‘heroes in a half-shell’ were kung fu legends, but who was your favourite?

1991 - GameBoy

GameBoy, the handheld that introduced the concept of playing games on mobile devices to millions. Hmmm. Were you one of those who spent every waking hour playing?

1992 - Thunderbirds Tracy Island

The 60s Thunderbirds TV series had a bit of a comeback in the 90s and the must-have toy by Christmas that year was Tracy Island. One of our MadeForMums' writers even had two!

1993 - Barbie

Barbie certainly has staying power, but do you remember the fabulous over-stated outfits she used to wear in the 90s?

1994 - Power Rangers Figures

The Power Rangers were 'here to save the world' and they came with the rather catchy Go Go Power Rangers theme tune, which demented many a parent.

1995 – POGS

One of many school crazes, these little ‘milk caps’ were collected and flipped like outsize tiddlywinks.

1996 - Toy Story Buzz Lightyear

He caused pandemonium in the shops when Buzz Lightyear dolls sold out before Christmas. Fights and heartbreak followed - something even Santa couldn't fix.

1997 - Tamagotchi

Oops! We were forever forgetting to feed our virtual pets. The Japanese toy has sold over 40 million pieces since its launch in the mid-90s.

1998 – Furby

We like to think that Furbys were the better-behaved cousins of Gremlins. They hatched in 1998 and could ‘learn words’ and ‘communicate’ with kids all over the world. But they were also very spooky.

2002 - Bratz Dolls

Bratz, the dolls with a ‘passion for fashion’ in the early 2000s, putting Barbie back in her box…well for a little while at least.
