Charlie, 32, who plays Janine Butcher told HELLO! magazine: “Kiki cried her eyes out when I told her I was leaving. She has been on set a lot over the years.”

She has spoken in the past about how much Kiki loves the fact that her mum is an actress. “Kiki loves me being in EastEnders,” she told whatsontv.com. “I don’t think I have a choice about her following in my footsteps. She’s a drama queen – she loves singing, acting and song-writing.

“I told her off about something the other day and she said, ‘Thank you very much for that, Mummy – that hurt, and it’s going in my next song’!”

But Charlie, who is dating architect Ben Hollington, also 32, says she’s nervous about the future. “I was so lucky in landing a role like Janine when I was only 17,” she told HELLO!. “I grew up there and the thought of not being there does sometimes frighten me.

But, she says, she is giving up EastEnders to focus on being a mum. “I can’t wait to do all those regular mummy things with Kiki, like picking her up from school and baking cakes.

“Between the long hours and an hour-and-a-half travelling time either side of my working day, I have missed out on those things.”
