Kierston, 37, was in her second trimester when she lost her baby. “It's been hard, especially at four months when you've got the baby scan picture and everything's fine,” she told OK! magazine.

“I was pregnant when I started on EastEnders – I thought I was going to lose the job. They said no I wasn’t, and I was going to do six months, then I had a miscarriage on set.

“It was quite hard at first but they were very, very supportive.”

She plays Max Branning’s wife in the soap, where she fakes a pregnancy in an attempt to keep him. “They were worried when they told me they wanted me to do a fake pregnancy and I said ‘don’t worry, it's totally different’.

“I tried to separate work from my personal life.”

But she says she’d love to try for a baby again. “I’d love to have a family. If I got pregnant next year, I’d be very, very happy – I’d love to be a mum.”

She will leave EastEnders at the end of this year and will star in a new drama, The Bible, where she’ll play Delilah.
