Facebook helps diagnose young boy’s leukaemia after dad posts picture

Worried dad Philip Rice uploaded photo of his 4-year-old's rash - and it helped save his life

When worried dad Philip Rice found a purple rash on his 4-year-old son’s face, he took a picture on his mobile phone and sent it to a friend via Facebook.

Amazingly, this simple phone photo led to his son’s diagnosis of leukaemia.

When the snap was seen by Philip’s doctor friend, he was told that he should take him to the hospital straight away. Hours later, Ted was told he had lymphocytic leukaemia.

Ted’s parents believe that the instant response on Facebook has given Ted a better chance of fighting the cancer.

Ted is now having chemotherapy to fight the illness and will continue to do so for three years.
