A four-year-old boy has discovered gold after picking up a metal detector for the first time.
James Hyatt was playing with a metal detector in Hockley, Essex last May when he found a 16th century gold reliquary pendent in the ground.
It has now been declared treasure trove by a coroner, and the British Museum are looking into buying it. If it goes ahead, the proceeds of the sale will be split between James and the landowner where the treasure was found.
James’s dad, Jason, was amazed by his son’s discovery. “My son is one of the luckiest people ever,” he said after the news.
