After announcing their shock engagement, Katy Perry, 25, and 34-year-old Russell Brand stirred things up a little more after speculation that they had more good news in store.

The controversial funnyman and his quirky popette fiancee raised eyebrows on whether they were about to become parents - just 5 months after they became an item. The story has since taken a further twist with a new tweet from Katy, giving a very candid update.

The not-so-subtle couple have never been shy in front of the cameras, and with a well publicised engagement, indiscreet flashings of Katy’s blinging Cartier ring and in-your-face PDAs (Public Displays of Affection), it’s little wonder that the whispers of baby on the way were rife.

It all began with a cryptic message posted on Katy’s Twitter page possibly suggesting that she was expecting . “It’s noon on Jan 1st here in the future, let me tell you 2010 is BUMPIN!” Adding to the rumour mill, Russell replied to his wife-to-be saying, “I hear your prego-ed” followed by further hinting about food cravings and morning sickness with posts about wanting her favourite fast food and ‘barfing’.

Keeping the speculation burning, the singer and her comedian beau were spotted in London browsing a children’s boutique and Katy was seen overtly (and again, indiscreetly) rubbing her stomach. The popstar is also rumoured to have ordered ‘well done’ eggs at lunch and asked the waiter to ‘hold the mayo’. Was this be because under cooked eggs and mayonnaise made with raw eggs are on the ‘no-no’ list for expectant mums. Or perhaps Katy simply liked her eggs well baked and prefers ketchup? Maybe her tummy rubbing was down to Russell’s bad cooking the night before? Or were the pair just having fun and leading us all down the garden path?

We do love a celebrity pregnancy rumour, and like Katy and Russell, it’s amazing how the hints and speculations cause such a frenzy! Penelope Cruz had friends sending her baby gifts after rumours she was expecting, Nicole Kidman slammed pregnancy whispers after innocently stroking her stomach and most recently, X Factor's Dannii Minogue, was forced to deny the speculations of her phantom pregnancy as ‘absolutely untrue’.
