When celebrities announce the birth of their babies we can usually expect to hear the news first with a gushing tweet or if we’re lucky, a sweet Instagram selfie. But American rapper Macklemore has really taken baby announcements to a new level.

The Thrift Shop singer’s wife Tricia Davis gave birth to a baby girl 2 months ago, and the couple have kept the news a secret until now – sharing the news alongside a surprise new single. The new song features Ed Sheeran and is all about his newborn and how it feels to become a dad for the first time.

Releasing the song on his website, a statement reads: “Our daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty was born 2 months ago on May 29th. There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life. This song is for her.”

Awww. We have to say, Sloane is a very unusual name. In Gaelic it means ‘warrior’ and in Celtic it means ‘fighter’. In the song, Macklemore says: “Your momma’s the toughest person I know, I wanna raise you to be like her, and watch you show the world how to do it on your own.” So he’s clearly aiming to raise a strong girl – that’s what we like to hear!
