Mamas & Papas issue urgent recall of multistage car seats
Safety worries over potentially faulty car seats has led to a nationwide warning for parents using the seats
Four Mamas & Papas Group 1/2/3 car seats have been urgently recalled following safety concerns that the seats may crack during a crash.
Parents have been told to stop using these car seats immediately as they may not provide the intended level of protection for children sitting in the seats.
The car seats, the Nembus, Aureus, Group 123 and Altair have been on sale since March 2015 and were being sold by Mamas & Papas, Asda, Tesco Direct and other independent retailers.
All affected seats can be identified by their approval code; 04 44596. This code is printed on an orange sticker at the back of the seat, and will look like the picture below.
“Following a series of safety checks, Mamas & Papas have identified a potential safety concern with a number of car seats that were sold through Asda, Tesco, Shop Direct and some independent retailers.

"They were also sold through the Mamas & Papas website and our factory stores. In the event of an accident the car seat shell may crack and therefore not provide the intended level of protection to the user.”

"All are Group 123 car seats. You can identify the seat by comparing the orange label on the back with the one shown above. The approval code should match and is 04 44596.
Mamas & Papas can assure customers that none of the affected car seats have been on sale since March 2015 and there have been no reports of any incidents involving any of the affected car seats.”
If you have one of these car seats, stop using it and go straight to Mamas & Papas, even if you purchased it from another retailer...
Mamas & Papas is acting promptly and offering refunds or replacements, even if you don’t have a receipt.
And what’s more Mamas & Papas is also offering parents a designated courier service will collect the car seat.
What if the car seat isn’t in great condition?
That’s fine. Mamas & Papas will not dispute a refund even if your car seat is well-used.
How will I get my money back?
You’ll get your refund according to the way you originally paid for it - so if you’ve paid by card, your card will be refunded. If you’ve paid by cash, you’ll receive a cash refund. If you don’t have a receipt, you may receive a cash refund or voucher.
