Mariah Carey has finally announced the names of her new twin babies – Monroe and Moroccan.

The singer revealed the stories behind her and hubby Nick Cannon’s unusual choices for the twins who were born earlier this week. Baby daughter Monroe is named, not surprisingly, after film star Marilyn Monroe. Mariah explained on her website that the Hollywood actress had been a lifelong inspiration.

She owns a white piano that used to belong to Marilyn, which she bid for at an auction – perhaps with the dream that one day she’d have a daughter named Monroe tinkling the keys.

Although she didn’t elaborate on her baby son’s curious name Moroccan, she may have been influenced by the location where Nick proposed to her. No, not Morocco but the top level of her New York City apartment which is apparently called the Moroccan Room, due to its Moroccan-inspired décor.

Mariah explained that his full name is Moroccan Scott Cannon, and that he shares his middle name with his dad Nick and his grandmother.

However, Monroe is simply called Monroe Cannon, with no middle name. A spokesperson explained this was because Mariah herself does not have one.

Earlier this week, Mariah tweeted that her babies were doing well and were “the most incredible gifts we could ever have imagined.”
