Mariah Carey reveals why she wanted her pregnancy to be a secret
Singer admits keeping her news quiet because of a miscarriage two years ago
After months of press speculation, including stories of Mariah being spotted wearing a maternity dress and her discussing baby name choices, the 40-year-old singer has finally announced that she is pregnant with her first child.
The worst kept celeb pregnancy secret was finally confirmed by Mariah Carey herself when she appeared on the US Today show. “Yes, we are pregnant,” Mariah revealed. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.”
The tough journey Mariah refers to is the miscarriage she suffered in 2008. The mum-to-be admitted on the show that she lost her baby just after her and hubby Nick Canon, 30, got married. The singer sadly revealed that she found out about her miscarriage just before the couple set off to Colorado to announce their baby news to family.
“Literally, the day we were supposed to travel to Aspen we had an ultrasound. Unfortunately that was a time where the doctor said, ‘I’m sorry but the pregnancy is unsuccessful,’” Mariah recalled.
The devastating loss hit Mariah hard. “She was being so festive and putting on a smile and then, literally, at night, she was crying herself to sleep,” Mariah’s husband Nick said.

However, with the loss behind them, the couple now have some good news to share as Mariah is three months pregnant. Refusing to admit her due date she told the show, “It’s still early.”
Mariah and Nick have wasted no time thinking about baby names though! “We’ve had names picked out from the first day we met and we want to stay true to that.”
