Millions hit the road for the summer getaway

Travel chaos is expected to grip the country this weekend as Britons head off on holiday

Britain’s major travel routes are expected to clog up this weekend as tens of thousands of people head off on holiday.

As the first weekend of the school summer holiday begins, motorists are being warned to expect major delays on the roads. Coastal routes are likely to be hit particularly badly as more families opt for traditional British holidays.

The nation’s railways and airports are also expected to be affected as Britons head off in their droves.

To make your journey easier, Virgin Trains are gearing up for the abundance of children travelling on their services over the school holidays. They’ve engineered Emergency Packs for parents containing disposable nappies, nappy sacks, wipes, baby milk and disposable bibs. Older children can pass time waiting for the train playing in Virgin’s VKids corners at selected stations and cries of “Are we  there yet?” will be quelled by the VKids activity bags.

If you’re heading to the skies, the British Airways’ Paddington Bear suitcase with crayons, colouring book and stickers is also sure to distract little ones from popping ears.
