Mum-to-be thought she was allergic to baby

New mum discovered her alarming reaction was Hyperemesis Gravidarum

A new mum has spoken about her fears of being allergic to her pregnancy after suffering extreme morning sickness, known as Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

Andrea McEwan, 26 suffered from excessive morning sickness throughout her pregnancy, spending three months in hospital and losing three stone while pregnant baby Kurt, now two weeks old.

“I spent the first month of my pregnancy in hospital, and was admitted 10 times in total,” said Andrea. “I was just constantly vomiting. I was sick 20 times a day and was put on a drip because I was so dehydrated.”

Andrea also tore her oesophagus and damaged her teeth and gums from constant vomiting during her nine months, which continued throughout her labour, only stopping when Kurt was born.

“I didn’t once get excited about being pregnant because I didn’t know if it would end in a baby,” said Andrea. “It was absolute hell from the beginning until the end, but every second was worth it for him.”

Andrea and baby Kurt are now at home with proud new dad, Kevin.
