Following speculation that actress Nicole Kidman and her singer husband, Keith Urban, had been looking into adopting a Vietnamese baby, Kidman’s representatives have denied the claims.
The couple reportedly approached the Vietnamese authorities to begin the process of finding a sibling for their daughter, Sunday Rose who is almost 1.
Kidman’s spokeswoman said, “I am aware of this rumour from Australia’s New Idea tabloid. It is a complete fabrication, there is no truth in it whatsoever.”
The claims were doubted even before the couple denied them as the US and several other countries are refusing to deal with Vietnam on adoptions because of fears of baby trafficking and corruption.
The rumours originally came from Dang Minh Dao, deputy of the Department of International Adoption at the Ministry of Justice in Hanoi who reportedly told Australia’s New Idea magazine: “Yes, Nicole Kidman wants a baby from Vietnam. We’ve been approached by the American Embassy.”
A spokesman for Kidman’s Australian lawyer, Stuart Gibson reportedly told New Idea magazine: “We are not going to discuss this situation.”
But Nicole Kidman’s spokeswoman said the actress’s lawyer had never been spoken to.
