Photo of toddler ‘breastfeeding’ sparks heated comments

It's been branded unsafe, and even 'pornographic' but have the comments gone too far?

It was meant as a bit of fun, but now a photo of a toddler ‘breastfeeding’ his baby sibling has sparked a heated debate between parents. Some have even gone as far as to call the image “pornographic”.

The picture was first shared on the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page with the caption: “Don’t worry mum, I’ve got you covered”.

The page describes itself as: “A peaceful parenting page for mommies all over the world to get support, education, & advice in breastfeeding and their mommy journey.”

Clearly the mum of the toddler involved in the picture felt the page was a good place to share her joke – but she couldn’t have predicted how the negative comments would get out of hand.

Your kid might be breastfed when…

“That is sick child pornographic [sic],” another added. “Those children need to be taken away from the parents and the photographer arrested.”

Another commenter was concerned about the baby’s safety: “It’s not that the boy shouldn’t want to help his baby sibling, but he could accidentally hurt the baby. I mean its nose and mouth are covered and that’s just not ok.”

“I just don’t know how I feel about the child trying to breastfeed the baby,” another added. “I have no qualm with breastfeeding at all… that just seems wrong in a way. With a bottle or to a doll or whatever fine but to the baby isn’t ok to me.”

Other mums were in on the joke. “If I’d have known big brothers could breastfeed, I’d have taken a lot more showers when baby was new,” one quipped.

“My son was about 4 when he discovered that boys don’t give birth and they aren’t able to breastfeed. He cried for weeks!!!” another added.
