If you’re heading back to work after maternity leave or pondering a career change, you may want to take a look at the UK’s top family-friendly employers.
The Top Employers Awards 2012, conducted by Working Mums, celebrates companies who support working parents, whether it’s with flexible working hours or facilities that offer real family support.
Barclays scooped the award for best family support after showcasing impressive and innovative ways for tackling family issues.
The London School of Economics and Political Science was voted top company for dads, by showing passion for family life and recognising a father’s parental responsibilities.
The employer who came out miles ahead for flexible working hours was Unilever. The company’s “anytime working” policy, that allows employees to work at anytime, from anywhere, has proved very effective for parents and has been reinforced by measurable results.
Sodexo came out on top in the working mums champion award after demonstrating real commitment to helping women return to the workplace in the way that best suits them.
“Entries for this year’s awards were very impressive,” says Gillian Nissim, founder of WorkingMums.
“It’s wonderful to see employers are still forging forward with innovative policy and practice despite the tough economic times.”
“We hope the awards will inspire other employers to follow their lead.”
The awards were set up to recognise good practice around flexible working hours and aim to inspire less mum-friendly organisations to follow suit.
The Government is set to announce a new flexible parental scheme where maternity leave can be taken by either parent.
Nick Clegg is expected to announce more on the new plans today.
