William and Kate hope to give the royal baby a ‘normal’ upbringing
As the nation waits with baited breath for the arrival of the royal baby this month, royal commentators and insiders predict that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will follow in Diana, Princess of Wales’ footsteps and try to give their baby as ‘normal’ an upbringing as possible.
According to Christopher Warwick, Princess Margaret’s official biographer, Diana’s decision to make William and Harry’s childhood as normal as possible had a huge impact on the two princes.
He said: “William and Harry were very, very fortunate with Diana as a mother because her ideas were so different to the previous generation.
“The importance of this to her two sons have been enormous. William will want this for his children.”
Diana was a very hands-on mother and it is thought that Kate will be the same, especially as she had a normal upbringing herself.
Christopher added: “Her childhood was pretty ordinary. She won’t want her baby to be the subject of rules and protocol before they need to be.”
