Breastfeeding but need to introduce a bottle to your baby?

Although it may have been a challenge to get the hang of breastfeeding, there may be times when you want (or need!) your little one to take a bottle.

Perhaps a return to work is looming, you have a big event coming up, or your partner wants to share some of the feeding burden with you (another 3am feed anyone?).

Whatever the reason, once you’ve got breastfeeding established (which can take up to six weeks, says the NHS), it’s usually possible to offer bottles alongside breastfeeding, bearing in mind that exclusive breast milk for around the first six months is recommended.

But not all bottles are made equal, so we’ve picked our top choices (with a bit of help from our trusty MFM mums and expert reviewers) to help make mixed – or combination – feeding that bit easier.

From flattened teats and wide, flexible tops to emulate the breast, to anti-colic systems and self-sterilising bottles, check out our 10 best bottles for breastfed babies to find the right one for you…

What our MadeForMums Awards Judges say about the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle:

“I have used these bottles for both my sons from birth, alongside breastfeeding. I found the bottles to be durable and safe. My children were able to latch onto the teats with ease and I was able to control the flow of milk using the different teat options. As you’d expect, they fit perfectly into the Tommee Tippee bottle warmers for heating expressed milk or formula easily and effectively. I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.” Mum of 2, Rebecca

“Easy to hold and the different sizes from 150ml to 340ml allow a range of options. Love the soft, flexible teat. Lid comes off easily, no struggling!” MFM Reviews Editor Magda Ibrahim
