10 of the best lightweight double buggies

The top performing twin and tandem pushchairs that weigh less than 12.5kg

twin or tandem buggy is always going to be heavier than a single lightweight pushchair, and once you’ve got twins or two siblings onboard, well, that’s double the load.

However, just because you’re a parent of two shouldn’t mean you need super-human strength to get around with your family.

So we’ve hunted down 10 of the lightest – and best performing – twin and tandem buggies on the market. Many of them even weigh less than a standard pushchair!

These are lightweight double or tandem pushchairs you can buy…

1. Baby Jogger City Mini Double, £499.99, 12kg

Best for: Use from birth with two carrycots

  • Weight: 12kg
  • Age suitable for: 6 months to 3 years (15kg) – both seats
  • Travel system compatible: No

The Baby Jogger City Mini Double buggy is designed to tackle multiple terrains and city roads. With big wheels and great suspension, the ride is comfy for your babies or toddlers.

Suitable from six months, the City Mini Double is easy to steer thanks to the lockable swivel front wheels, plus it has UPF 50+ sun hoods.

If you want to use it from birth, add the compact carrycot (£139.99).

Despite being from the company that ‘invented the exercise stroller’ this twin buggy is not made for jogging, but that doesn’t stop it from feeling sturdy and durable.

Our reviewer loved how lightweight it felt, and how easily she could carry it up and down stairs.

At just 10kg, this is a lightweight side-by-side pushchair and the one-hand fold taking it down to 42cm x 74cm x 80cm makes it practical too.

What our MadeForMums Awards judges say about the Red Kite Push Me Twini:

“What I love about this buggy is how light and easy it is to steer, especially manoeuvring over kerbs. It’s also simple to fold down and fairly compact. This is a well-designed buggy that has similar features to those you would expect from a more expensive brand or model, such as separate reclining seats, large shopping basket and an adjustable leg rest.

I’d recommend this buggy if you’re on a budget, or are after a second buggy for the nursery run or occasional use.” Mum of 2, Maxine

“Excellent value for money. Good features include individually reclining seats and it folds up really easily. Children have plenty of space.” Mum of 1, Claire

Each seat can be used to 15kg, but only the back seat reclines flat and can be used from birth, with the front seat suitable from 6 months.

Despite being longer than most double buggies the Evalite folds really compactly to 99cm x 56.5cm x 45cm and is easy to store away.

  • Age suitable for: Newborn to 25kg (approx. 5 years) in main seat, newborn to 15kg (3 years) in second seat
  • Travel system compatible: Yes – two car seats can be attached to the buggy

Ok, so it’s slightly over 12.5kg when set up as a double, but the fact this pushchair is travel system compatible and can seat a larger child up to 25kg in the main seat – which is also a huge 65cm tall – means we couldn’t leave it out.

For £648, you’ll get the 3-wheeler Dash single buggy (£499) and the doubles kit (£149) to create a tandem.

Plus there are numerous other seating options, from 2 infant car seats (sold separately), to adding the Dash carrycot (£139), or even using the frame with two double kits to have a parent-facing option.
