Every body type is different, and the most flattering fit for your shape can depend what you feel most comfortable in. Finding the right outfits, post-baby, is all about using clothes as an opportunity to boost your confidence.
Here’s our pick of swimsuits to make you feel body-confident on the beach:
1. Boden waist detail Santorini swimsuit in Hot Pepper, £60, 6-20
The pink and red colour way of this swimsuit is very on trend; but beyond its style credentials, the panelling, low-lying pink waistband and body sculpting-lining on this swimsuit are a new mum’s best friend. The halterneck also means no under-arm squish popping out.
Available from: Boden
2. Gap high-neck zip front one-piece swimsuit, £49.95, S-L
Similar to the Boden suit, the wide black edging gives a nice slimline effect here. The half zip would be very handy for breastfeeding mums who don’t want the faff of rolling down their swimsuit. The halterneck swimsuits on our list (below) could also be good for ease of breastfeeding.
Available from: Gap
3. John Lewis control cross front swimsuit, £55, 8-20
Besides its beautiful cobalt colour, the ruching across the tummy is super flattering, nipping in at the waist. The strap lengths are adjustable, (hallelujah – you don’t want to fall in love with a swimsuit then not be able to adjust the scaffolding), and the lining is made with a control fit to keep you held in and supported.
Available from: John Lewis
4. M&Co leopard print tummy control swimsuit, £32, 10-20
Leopard is so well loved, as a new neutral, and this style would look great teamed with an oversized shirt or kaftan at the beach or poolside. Plus, it’s made with tummy support, so will hold you in at all the right places. The ruching does a similarly flattering job as the John Lewis swimsuit.
Available from: Amazon and M&Co
5. Superdry Alice textured cupped swimsuit, £44.99, 6-16
If you fancy some chest support, this swimsuit has moulded cups and a bra style back to keep you in place, with a scooped back if you fancy showing more skin in that area. If you have had enough of stripes during pregnancy, this style does come in a block red, too.
Available from: ASOS and Superdry
6. Figleaves Icon Spot mesh halter shaping swimsuit, £55, 8-20
Sometimes, you just need a little black number. The Icon Spot swimsuit adds something extra, with its halter neck made from a pretty mesh. It has tummy control, and a four-way stretch for a fit that feels like a second skin.
Available from: Amazon and Figleaves
7. Marks & Spencer Secret Slimming Padded Plunge Swimsuit, £25, 8-24
Good old M&S has a great range of costumes designed to smooth and flatter, and this suit adds a touch of glamour to a classic black number with a plunging neckline. The front tie detail and inner panelling will keep you looking sleek on the beach, while UPF50+ fabric helps protect from the sun.
Available from: Marks & Spencer
8. New Look dark brown belted spot print swimsuit, £25.99, 4-18
Another brilliantly belted swimsuit, this time decorated with pretty polka dots. It does have moulded cups and adjustable straps, but this would suit a smaller bust as the suit has a tendency to droop if there’s too much weight in the bust area.
Available from: New Look
9. F&F zebra print body-shaping swimsuit, £18, 8-22
With its body-sculpting technology, this swimsuit holds you in without sending the squish elsewhere. Ideal if you’ve had a Caesarean section, the sculpting is comfortable and holds everything in place.
Available from: F&F (shop in store at Tesco) and Next
10. Monsoon Hana palm print one shoulder swimsuit, £39, 8-18
Depending on your skin tone, navy can be more flattering than black. This tropical swimsuit adds a touch of glamour with its ring shoulder detail. Like the New Look belted swimsuit, this would look especially good on a smaller bust, and the all-over print will smooth over your tummy.
Available from: Monsoon
