The Chicco Ergo Gym has four play positions to adapt as your baby grows.

Chicco has been around for over 40 years. Its mission statement is to make babies happy, and its website states everything they do has this purpose in mind. The Ergo Gym has met this mission statement to a degree.

The Chicco Ergo Gym offers four positions of play, so that it adapts to each stage of your baby’s growth. From birth your baby can lie on their back and reach out and grab the rattles, which then activate lights and melodies. From 4 months it turns into the comfortable baby seat and she uses her feet instead of her hands. From 6 months your baby lies on her tummy and touches the activities on the panel, which helps to strengthen her neck and back muscles. From 9 months your child can sit on the soft base and play with the electronic panel.

What we love

Isabella loved the music and melodies and lying on the comfy mat.

The Chicco Ergo Gym is also handy because it’s portable with an easy to carry handle. It folds up so it’s easy to store.

What to watch out for

When the Ergo trainer arrived I was excited for my baby to try it out, but I found that though the base was easy enough to put together the instructions were too complicated. I struggled to attach the hanging toys, which was frustrating. The whole thing was bulky and unstylish.

I also found that the flashing lights were not very bright for my baby to see. My friend’s older baby, who can sit up, enjoyed playing with the electronic panel, but got bored after 10 minutes, as it’s quite basic.

Though the manufacturer says it grows with your child I don’t think there is enough to stimulate a baby over 6 months for long periods of time.

Not a negative point, but something to remember: two AA batteries are required.

Who is Chicco Ergo Gym best for?

Babies under 6 months of age.

MadeForMums verdict

The Chicco Ergo Gym is fun for younger babies to play with and enjoy the lights and melodies. However, it’s quite expensive and while it claims to grow with your child with its four play positions, in reality a 9 month old would probably need more to keep her occupied. This play gym is also fairly difficult to put together.
