Why we love it:  The animal characters are very cute and chunky and the play table features a great bird’s-eye jungle scene that makes the perfect base for games and crafts. It folds up nice and small, too.

Why we love it: We rate the ‘parent reminder’ that lets you know when your baby has been playing in the centre for 10 and then 20 minutes – and the clapping sounds for 100 jumps are fun. We also really like the detachable leaf teethers.

Why we love it: We rate it for its music and lights, sturdy design and removable machine-washable seat. The new version is also much more compact – and easier to fold up and store.

What it is: This is a super-robust height-adjustable baby walker, shaped like a Formula 1 racing car, that boasts lights, a multi-activity tray and racing car sounds. It’s height-adjustable and a safety device makes it stop when it comes to a step.

Why we love it: This is perfect for any future petrolheads out there. We like its floor-friendly wheels, wall-protecting bumpers and removable, washable padded seat.

Why we love it: We love the light show – and we’re so impressed with the 70+ activities, songs, and sounds, it won Bronze in our 2017 Toy Awards. It’s a bit clunky to move around but it’s certainly packed full of baby entertainment.

Why we love it: This is a sturdy and very bouncy bouncer! The toys are colourful and eye-catching and the piano is fun – with, mercifully, a mute button for when you need it.

8. Fisher Price 2 in 1 Sit to Stand Activity Centre, £99.99

Age: 4 months +

What it is: An activity centre with a seat that spins 360 degrees and repositionable toys. When your child’s older, the whole thing transforms into a play table. Machine-washable seat. Requires 2 AA batteries.

Why we love it: It’s lovely and light and easy to put together – although we do wish it was more height-adjustable, so that taller babies can fit in it for longer. There are a LOT of toys to play with; we really like the removable musical alligator (20 minutes of songs!) and, in play table mode, the very cool racing ramp.

What it is: A jungle themed activity centre with rotating seat and removable electronic music tray with twinkly lights. Folds compactly for storage. Machine-washable seat.

Why we love it: It’s very colourful without being overwhelmingly so, and we really rate the overhead dangling bananas! Our baby testers enjoyed the music (and their parents were relieved to find the volume control…)

Why we love it: We really like the light-up piano – either positioned at floor-level, for those bouncing toes to make tunes with, or placed up on the tray. The whole thing is super-easy to assemble, in lovely colours, and there’s masses of stuff to keep your baby entertained.
