Call off the search – the Chicco Lite Way could be the only lightweight pushchair you ever need. Suitable from birth, light and manoeuvrable, it ticks all the boxes.

Chicco is an Italian company that makes pretty much everything for babies, from cots and prams to bottles and dummies – and its products are available in almost every country in the world.

The Lite Way is a simple but very effective lightweight buggy that’s suitable from birth, is extremely compact and has a one-handed umbrella fold.

What we love

This pushchair has so much going for it. It folds really small, it’s light, it’s manoeuvrable, and the shopping basket is a great size. I don’t really see the point of the basket adapting to a backpack, but it does, and it could be useful on days out or holidays.

Reclining the seat to five different positons is simple, using a lever at the back. I found it has a smoother fold mechanism and a better brake than many lightweight buggies I’ve tried. There’s also a useful carry handle on the side, which makes transporting it around much easier. It also comes in a range of bright colours and you get a matching fleece foot muff with a soft cot style hood included in the reasonable price.

Finally, one of the things that other mums online like about the Lite Way is that it’s grandma-friendly. It’s a traditional style buggy that folds in a straightforward way, and has no trendy gimmicks or tricks up its sleeve.

What to watch out for

Like many lightweights, the seat is fairly narrow, and so if you have a big two year old, it may feel a bit restrictive. It’s also not quite as light as a Maclaren, so isn’t as great to use as a holiday buggy, particularly if you’re going abroad and need to cart it around by hand. Finally, it’s probably not the one for you if you’re after something that looks different and stylish, as it’s quite traditional.

Who’s the Chicco Lite Way best for?

Mums who want a simple, sturdy and lightweight pushchair.

MadeForMums verdict

A lot of mums invest in a great pushchair that’s suitable from birth and has lots of features. However, many then decide to buy a much lighter weight stroller with an umbrella fold to use on quick shopping trips or to take on holiday. This one will last you right from birth until toddler years. You could probably buy one that’s lighter just for holidays, or one that’s comfier for your newborn, but you’ll struggle to find one that’s as versatile as the Chicco LiteWay.
