The Kiddicare Super Car Seat is a budget priced car seat with a long life span. It’s easy to fit and light, but may not have enough padded to keep your child comfy if you frequently make long car journeys.
The Kiddicare Super Car Seat is a forward-facing multi-group car seat, spanning Groups 1, 2 and 3. This means it’s suitable from 9kg to 36kg, roughly 9 months to 11 or 12 years. It’s sold exclusively by online baby products specialist Kiddicare, a company that seems to be retaining its good reputation for price and customer service since being bought earlier this year by giant retailer Morrisons. This is one of Kiddicare’s best selling own-brand car seats.
The Super is a lightweight car seat that will fit most vehicles. There’s no ISOFIX, but you wouldn’t expect it in this price range. The seat is fixed into the vehicle with the car’s 3-point seatbelt.
It comes with a 5-point safety harness and chest and crotch pads for children from 9kg to 18kg. After that the harness is easily removed and the car’s seatbelt is threaded through the seat to secure it. It has an easily adjustable headrest, which is simple to raise as your child grows.
It is tested to and passes the European regulation R44.04. Apparently the manufacturer does additional (ADAC German) testing for its own reassurance and confirms the Super achieved 3***.
There are lots of reviews of this car seat on Kiddicare.com and most are positive. When I checked, 116 out of 123 customers (94%) recommend this seat with Easy to install at 86%, Easy to Adjust at 78%, Safe at 76%, Sturdy at 73%, Comfortable at 66% and Stylish at 55%. I would agree with the majority of the reviews, and one of the main negative points of the seat that it’s a bit uncomfortable.
What we love
The Kiddicare Super Car Seat is very affordable, especially for the wide age range it can span. Although the RRP is £60, Kiddicare sells it regularly at a promotional price around £36. I believe it is an excellent value, budget car seat.
The Super Car Seat is easy to fit. The Kiddicare website has a good product video on it, which demonstrates how to fit the seat correctly. I found this very helpful as you can’t go into a shop and have it demonstrated in person. Personally I find some of the (wordless) diagrams in the manuals very hard to make head or tail of!
The car seat also looks smart and seems safe. It’s light and versatile.
What to watch out for
Be aware that there’s no recline position so it’s a bit upright for those wanting younger children to nod off.
The amount of padding is minimal so I don’t believe it would be very comfortable for more than the short distances that we used it for.
Although the headrest is easy to adjust I didn’t feel it was very sturdy.
Who is the Kiddicare Super Car Seat best for?
Parents on a tight budget with toddlers or older children, and grandparents needing a seat for occasional use or short journeys.
This basic car seat is good value for those on a tight budget and for those occasional journeys when moving a main, heavier seat into another car isn’t ideal. However, check the product video carefully for correct installation – some seemed to find it fiddly – and don’t expect a well-padded seat for super comfort.
