Pros

  • XL hood, full recline, comfortable, travel friendly

Cons

  • Seat unit does not stay upright

Aptly named the "Slim Line Big Little Stroller" by creators Mamas & Papas, the City is newest buggy in the ever-popular Armadillo range. Intended to be a comfy second stroller, the City has an ultra-compact frame and is specially designed for small spaces.

This lightweight buggy has many competitors on the market, such as the Joie Aire, Britax B-Motion 4 and Baby Jogger City, but the British manufacturer aims to make its Armadillo City different by not only being light, but also compact and stylish parental eye candy.

How is assembling the pushchair?

Assembling the Armadillo City was really simple, the instructions were detailed, but a few glances were all that was needed to get it up and running.

I clipped in the wheels, attached the sun canopy, unfolded the buggy and we (my 7-month-old daughter Kiara and I) were through the door in less than seven minutes. Its slender and lightweight frame meant I could finally fit through my front door without any problems. Before I had struggled to get my last buggy up and over the threshold, but this was no longer a problem with the City.

How is the buggy when out and about?

The Armadillo City is perfect for manoeuvring through the hustle and bustle of busy London. It can actually be steered with one hand, and once I got the hang of it, it was easy.

That said, the suspension is not great when compared to our previous pushchair and on uneven surfaces it can be rather bumpy. But once on level ground it’s a smooth ride, and my 7-month-old daughter Kiara loves to sit back and enjoy looking at the world.

The brake pedal is situated adjacent to the right back wheel, its small and positioned so that it is easily accessible. Just press down for on and push up for off, making it convenient and trouble free to put the break on quickly.

What about the Armadillo City fold action?

Folding the buggy is neat and simple, with its one-hand fold mechanism, its perfect for quickly shoving into car boots or when you’re jumping on a bus.

Simply twist the handle as if on a motorbike and push forward. It takes about 5 seconds and it lies virtually flat.

What do you think about the seat unit?

I think the seating is fantastic in terms of space; Kiara has as much wriggle room as she does in her bed. This makes it comfortable and relaxing for her to lean back and enjoy the ride.

However getting the seat to stay upright is a task, I had to prop it into position by putting the canopy behind it. Kiara enjoys sitting up and absorbing her surrounding as we travel, which was a bit difficult at times because the seat couldn’t support her.

How is interacting with your daughter?

It’s been really good, the sun canopy has a little window, or a spy hole I like to call it, where I can see what my daughter is up to, rather than having to stop, and check her, every so often.

Tell us about the shopping basket?

Sadly, I couldn’t get too carried away with shopping as the basket is quite small, and does not hold much. And there isn’t a way of positioning bags on the side of the buggy (like I can with my previous pushchair) so you may find carrying a heavy load and pushing quite a chore. I have been putting my handbag - which coincidentally fits quite neatly - on the handle.

Would you use it from birth?

No, although the Armadillo City is billed from birth to 3 years, I would suggest investing in a travel system for newborns, just for the extra snugness and warmth.

What do you think of the style?

I love the design of the Armadillo City. I have the lemon drop colour; it adds life and vibrancy to our journeys and as the days get darker why not standout?

The material used for the seat, is a dark grey, this is an excellent colour choice by the manufacture as it makes it hardwearing, and also will compliment any of the other colour options available in the range.

Can you travel with the buggy?

Yes, I think you can. In fact I have a holiday planned, in the next few months, and I will defiantly be taking the pushchair. Its compact size and capability to fold down in seconds very compactly, means it will be great to take on a plane, getting around the airport, and also pushing whilst abroad.

Lightweight, compact the Armadillo City is well suited for the busy city life. It’s never difficult or an effort to take your little one out and about wherever you need to go. Its well within budget at £199.00 and is most certainly a great investment. It’s good value for money, and a product built with style and quality to last.
