The Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod is a stylish and easy-to-use addition to your increasing load of baby paraphernalia.

Style has definitely been a leading factor in the design of the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod - my 4-year-old is convinced we have an alien space ship sitting on our worktop. The ball shaped design means that this steriliser takes up quite a bit of room, however as we have to have one sitting there it may as well look good, and this one does.

Using the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod is easy. The handy tray slots make loading six wide-neck or standard bottles simple, and you then add 180ml of water (no measuring jug is supplied but as the instructions point out there’s a gauge on the side of your bottles). Then, just clip on the lid and press the button.

The domed lid has four clips to hold it securely in place on the base and a handle on the top that makes it very easy to move about should you want to. The Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod also has three sturdy non-slip feet to steady it on your worktop.

Sterilising takes eight minutes and then five minutes to cool down, and the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod has 24-hour and 48-hour settings. If you select one of these, they activate the steriliser to perform short re-runs of the sterilisation cycle to keep your bottles sterile (within an unopened pod) for up to two days.

The digital display is very easy to understand, with simple symbols and a countdown feature to indicate where you are in the sterilisation process - the red cross means you’re in the process of sterilising, a green tick to show that you’re done. Once the cycle is finished, the display then counts down from six hours to show how much longer the bottles will remain sterile for if the lid remains unopened.

Once finished, the tray is easy to remove and makes a handy place on which to assemble your bottles using the tongs provided.

What we love

Whilst I’m not sure what I would need the 48-hour setting for, the 24-hour setting proved very useful overnight. It meant that if Freya slept through we all woke up to sterile ready-to-go bottles.

I love how quick the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod is to use; loading is speedy and not at all fiddly unlike some others and the cycle is effective yet quick to cool down, so we didn’t have to wait around long for bottles.

I like the fact that the pod is well designed, with nice clean lines. Even though it takes up a bit of space it doesn’t look out of place amongst the chrome and simplicity of my kitchen.

What to watch out for

My only concern with the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod is price. At £49.99 you’re paying a lot for a digital display and a 24-hour function.

Who is the Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod best for?

Mums who like stylish gadgets and the idea of a 24-hour sterilisation cycle.

The Mothercare LCD48 digital steam steriliser pod is a fantastic looking product that’s easy to use and does the job well. However, it is a little pricy.
