The Mothercare U-Move Travel System costs a budget-friendly £150. The package includes the multi-position 12.45kg U-Move buggy, which is suitable from birth, a Group 0+ infant car seat that weighs a light 2.5kg, the Mothercare Weathershield (raincover) and Mothercare’s two-year guarantee.
What we love
Value is one of the key features of the U-Move Travel System. For a little bit more than the average price of your first car seat, you can buy a whole travel system, which is an absolute snip whichever way you look at it. So whether you’re strapped for cash, want a cheap travel system to keep at the grandparents’ or just don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds, this could be for you.
It’s incredibly easy to put together and get going with. I’ll be honest, I’m a bit rubbish when it comes to building buggies but this one honestly couldn’t have been easier – and the pictorial instructions are simple to follow, too.
The Mothercare U-Move looks the part. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to challenge the upmarket buggy models on the style stakes, but the colourful stripy fabric will suit both girls and boys and is eye-catching as you walk down the street.
The storage basket underneath is a really handy size and high enough off the ground not to scrape the floor if you fill it right up – something I’m always guilty of doing when I head around the shops! It also moves really easily – the swivel wheels are a good size so you can nip in and out of the crowds with ease.
The car seat, suitable from birth to 13kg, comes in the same stripy fabric so looks more attractive than a lot of the others and it’s really light, too, which is incredibly handy once your little one starts growing! It sits in the pushchair once you’ve removed some bits and pieces, and all up you have a travel system that weighs 15.4kg.
What to watch out for
If you’re after a sexy “look at me” travel system, this isn’t for you. The Mothercare U-Move is a value piece of kit, and you need to head elsewhere if you’re looking for extravagance. This travel system is very basic but includes everything you need until your baby becomes a toddler.
Although setting it up is a cinch, I did struggle with the folding. You have to be quite heavy handed to get it down, and even then, you can end up with some bits folded down and others still up. This is often the case with the cheaper folding mechanisms though – if you want streamlined folding, you’ll have to pay more. And that goes for when it’s up, too. The U-Move is quite a big buggy, so you’ll need a fair bit of space.
Who is the Mothercare U-Move Travel System best for?
Families watching their finances after a cheap and cheerful package.
The Mothercare U-Move Travel System has everything you need for the first year or so of your baby’s life. It’s a value product at a price that will please anyone, but with a bit more style and ease of movement than you might at first expect.
